Millions of tons of hazardous materials (HAZMAT) are shipped across the globe every day—many of which can be toxic, flammable, corrosive, or explosive. Ensuring that these materials are handled safely and in compliance with federal regulations is critical for protecting people, property, and the environment.

The Hazardous Materials Transportation Training course provides employees involved in shipping, packaging, and transporting hazardous materials with essential knowledge of U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and safe handling procedures. Participants will learn how to identify HAZMAT classes, complete shipping documentation, apply labels and placards correctly, and meet carrier-specific requirements for ground, air, rail, and water transport.

This comprehensive course builds awareness of HAZMAT safety practices and strengthens compliance with the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) to help prevent incidents during transport.

This training promotes regulatory understanding and operational safety for anyone involved in hazardous materials management. Learners will explore the responsibilities of shippers and carriers, proper documentation and labeling, and critical security awareness measures designed to reduce transportation-related risks.

• Carrier Requirements – Highway – Understand ground transport standards and carrier obligations.
• Carrier Requirements – Air (IATA) – Examine specific air transport requirements under Part 175 of the HMR.
• Carrier Requirements – Rail – Learn DOT requirements for moving hazardous materials by rail under Part 174.
• Carrier Requirements – Water (IMDG) – Understand IMDG Code requirements for marine and vessel transportation.

This online training takes approximately 5 hours to complete. Learners can progress at their own pace, pausing and resuming as needed for flexible study.

A passing mark of 80% is required to successfully complete this course. Testing throughout reinforces comprehension, and learners may retake the course up to two additional times if needed. A printable student manual is included for reference and future knowledge retention.
