ADDIE
<\/b>Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, & Evaluation: A model used in the training industry to identify the steps in creating training material.<\/span><\/p>\n

AICC (Aviation Industry Computer-Based Training Committee)<\/strong>
An international association that developed guidelines and standards for courses that allow the courses to be shared between LMS systems that are AICC compatible.<\/p>\n

API (Application Programming Interface)<\/strong>
The specifications used by an interface to allow software programs to communicate with one another.<\/p>\n

Asynchronous Learning<\/strong>
Training that can be accessed and completed by multiple users at any time.<\/p>\n

Bundle<\/strong>
Is a package of courses.<\/p>\n

Corporate<\/strong>
A Corporate account is a client that has a custom branded private portal that can be use to access online courses for internal employees.<\/p>\n

Competency<\/strong>
Being qualified in terms of physical abilities or intellectual capabilities.<\/p>\n

eLearning<\/strong>
All forms of electronic learning, ranging from older forms of computer-based training up to new innovations in online training.<\/p>\n

eSafety<\/strong>
A direct client of BIS that can access the online courses on demand and may also use the BIS software application.<\/p>\n

FLV (Flash Video)<\/strong>
An old file format used for online videos that can be delivered almost instantly over the web. An FLV provides all the same benefits of an MP4 video, but is typically compressed into a smaller file size.<\/p>\n

FTP \/ SFTP (File Transfer Protocol & Secure File Transfer Protocol)<\/strong>
A method for transferring larger files over the Internet.<\/p>\n

SDI (Systematic Design of Instruction)<\/strong>
A model for outlining the stages of course development including Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation (ADDIE) and Maintenance.<\/p>\n

SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol)<\/strong>
A feature used for sending emails and our software offers a custom SMTP, allowing all system notifications to be sent out with our client\u2019s email address for a more seamless user experience.<\/p>\n

ISP (Internet Service Provider)<\/strong>
Any company that supplies Internet service.<\/p>\n

LMS (Learning Management System)<\/strong>
A program that enables the administration of courses and users including testing, tracking, record storage, and course permissions to locations or users.<\/p>\n

MP4<\/strong>
Short for MPEG-4 (MPEG: Moving Picture Experts Group, an international standards organization). MP4 is a standard for the compression of audio and video into a digital file that can be viewed on a variety of electronic devices. The output files are versatile and can be used in part or in whole as a video that will play from any website, as a DVD, or within an online course.<\/p>\n

Multimedia<\/strong>
Multiple forms of media including text, images, sound, and video.<\/p>\n

Network Partner<\/strong>
A Network Partner is a training partner that offers online courses from their website using a custom branded portal of the BIS Store and may offer BIS software to their clients. They also many own online content offered through the BIS network.<\/p>\n

Online Learning<\/strong>
All learning that occurs online.<\/p>\n

Open Source<\/strong>
Any program collectively developed by a community of programmers that is available for use at no cost. The collective efforts of the community work to improve, update, and maintain the program.<\/p>\n

Pedagogy<\/strong>
The science of education.<\/p>\n

PDF (Portable Document Format)<\/strong>
A file format created by Adobe for use across multiple platforms.<\/p>\n

Self-Assessment<\/strong>
A process where the learner identifies his or her own level of skill or knowledge.<\/p>\n

Self-Paced Learning<\/strong>
Any learning that takes place where the learner studies the information at any time and at a pace of their preference.<\/p>\n

SCORM 1.2 (Sharable Content Object Reference Model 1.2)<\/strong>
A set of standards developed by the office of the US Secretary of Defense. It\u2019s a standard what will allow completed courses to be shared between LMS and LCMS systems that are SCORM 1.2 compliant.<\/p>\n

SCORM 2004<\/strong>
A newer version of SCORM based on an API (Application Programming Interface) communication environment. This allows for course branching, enabling courses to become less of more difficult based on the learner\u2019s intermittent test results.<\/p>\n

Simulation<\/strong>
An interactive exercise that allows the learner to virtually experience a situation.<\/p>\n

SME (Subject Matter Expert)<\/strong>
A person with a high level of knowledge and\/or experience with a particular subject matter.<\/p>\n

SWF (Small Web Format \u2013 originally Shock Wave Flash)<\/strong>
Similar to FLV and MP4 videos, SWF offers added interactive capabilities. A user can click on parts of the video or image to trigger actions or responses. SWF and HTML5 are commonly used to create interactive exercises.<\/p>\n

Sub Client<\/strong> 
Any client portal setup under another client portal.<\/p>\n

Subscription Package<\/strong> 
Is where a customer has unlimited access to a select bundle of online courses through the BIS Learning Management System.<\/p>\n

Synchronous Learning<\/strong>
Learning that happens in sync with an instructor in real time. This includes webinars, live-streaming video, conference calls, or instructor lead online training.<\/p>\n

WBT (Web Based Training)<\/strong>
Any training provided over the web.<\/p>\n

Webinaire<\/strong>
Any live broadcast that allows for participants to interact online.<\/p>\n
