There are still safety operators onboard, for now. <a href=\"https:\/\/ir.aurora.tech\/news-events\/press-releases\/detail\/119\/aurora-begins-commercial-driverless-trucking-in-texas\"><strong>Each truck is equipped with a 360-degree sensor system and advanced AI to monitor surroundings, manage speed, and avoid collisions.<\/strong><\/a> It only drives in daylight and fair weather, but that\u2019s a stepping stone. By 2025, Aurora plans to launch 20 more trucks and expand to routes in El Paso and Phoenix.<\/p>\n<p>This is more than a technology story. It\u2019s a training challenge and an opportunity.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Autonomous-Truck.webp\" alt=\"Autonomous Truck and Logistics Operation\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"color: #00548f!important; font-size: 30px;\">What Autonomous Freight Means for Workforce Safety and Development<\/h2>\n<p>Removing drivers from cabs shifts risk, but doesn\u2019t remove it. And it opens up new responsibilities for safety leaders, training managers, and operations teams:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Fewer fatigue-related incidents<\/strong>, but new risks tied to system failures and handoffs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Consistent adherence to speed and traffic rules<\/strong>, thanks to automation, but monitoring those systems becomes a new skillset.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fleet risk oversight changes, <\/strong>from observing drivers to evaluating machine performance, software updates, and incident data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It also means people will need to be reskilled, not replaced.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"color: #00548f!important; font-size: 30px;\">The Upskilling Imperative<\/h2>\n<p>Safety professionals must now prepare for a hybrid workforce. Some roles will shift from manual operation to tech management.
