What is Propane Handling?
From backyard barbecues to large industrial sites, propane is part of everyday Canadian life. Its versatility makes it invaluable, but it must be managed with care. This online course gives participants the knowledge to safely handle propane cylinders, reduce risks, and follow Canadian safety requirements.

Propane is used across homes, farms, and industries, but when handled incorrectly, it poses serious risks. This program helps learners understand how propane works, the hazards involved, and the precautions needed for safe use.
Participants start with the basics: the nature of propane, its key characteristics, and where it is commonly applied. They will learn about the two withdrawal systems, vapour and liquid, and identify their components to ensure safe filling and handling.
Because propane use is strictly regulated in Canada, the course covers the CSA Code, TDG Act, WHMIS, and CEPA. These standards explain how proper handling safeguards workers, communities, and the environment.
The program also guides learners through safe transport, secure storage, and routine cylinder inspections. A clear step-by-step process for disconnecting and connecting propane cylinders is included, along with the correct use of protective equipment. The course closes with essential emergency response actions to take if an incident occurs.

This propane handling course can typically be completed in approximately 60 minutes. The concise, self-paced format allows learners to quickly build foundational knowledge while revisiting key safety concepts as needed.
Participants are required to achieve a score of 80% or higher on the final assessment. Up to three attempts are provided.
Upon successful completion, a certificate of completion will be available for download through the learner’s account.
