Boom trucks are widely used across multiple industries, yet incidents such as tip-overs, powerline contact, and falling loads continue to pose serious risks. Many of these events stem from gaps in hazard awareness, planning, and equipment understanding. This course addresses these challenges by introducing core safety principles aligned with Canadian standards and typical job site expectations.

Through structured modules, learners build knowledge in equipment fundamentals, inspection practices, setup procedures, and lift planning basics. The course also covers communication roles and emergency response considerations. By the end, learners gain practical insight into how to recognize unsafe conditions and support safer lifting operations in real-world environments.

• Perform pre-use inspections and recognize common signs of unsafe equipment conditions
• Explain how stability, leverage, and outrigger setup influence tip-over risk
• Apply safe setup practices using cribbing and outrigger pads for lifting support 
• Analyze basic lift planning elements including load awareness and exclusion zones
• Demonstrate safe operating practices to reduce struck-by and dropped load risks
• Recognize unsafe conditions and follow general emergency response procedures

This course takes approximately 120 minutes to complete. It is self-paced, allowing learners to pause and resume at any time.

A minimum score of 80% is required to pass. Learners are provided with up to three attempts to successfully complete the course.
